Withdrawal Speed Report — 5 Ethiopian Sportsbooks Tested
Independent real-money trials of 5 top Ethiopian operators (Betika, 1xBet, Melbet, Betwinner, HuluSport) on Telebirr, CBE Birr, and Hello Cash. 500 ETB deposit, minimum-stake Aviator bet, immediate withdrawal request, time clocked to balance update. n=8–12 trials per operator.
Betika is fastest for Telebirr withdrawals at 1h 23min average (n=11 trials). 1xBet ranks second at 2h 47min (n=10). Melbet third at 3h 14min (n=12). Betwinner at 4h 02min (n=8) with 2 failed Hello Cash trials. HuluSport slowest at 6h+ Telebirr average (n=7). Crypto withdrawals on 1xBet, Melbet, Betwinner, and MegaPari (not in this fiat-rail trial) settle in 5–15 minutes — faster than any fiat rail in Ethiopia. Full methodology, n-counts, and per-operator analysis below.
📐 Methodology
Identical procedure for all 5 operators. Trials conducted by Daniel Mebratu (Sports Betting Specialist, Bet-Eth Editorial Team) over Jan 5 – Mar 28, 2026. All trials use real money — no operator credits, free-bets, or test accounts.
Step 1 — Deposit
500 ETB via Telebirr to operator's cashier. Standard mobile-money deposit flow, USSD confirmation, instant credit to operator account.
Step 2 — Bet
One minimum-stake Aviator bet (typically 10 ETB) on the operator's Aviator instance, auto-cashout at 1.10×. This satisfies operators' "must bet before withdrawal" requirement without significant capital risk.
Step 3 — Withdrawal request
Immediate withdrawal request for the remaining balance (~490 ETB) via the same payment rail (Telebirr / CBE Birr / Hello Cash). KYC pre-completed before trial start.
Step 4 — Time clocking
Stopwatch from "withdrawal request submitted" to "funds visible in mobile-money balance". Confirmed via screenshot of Telebirr app showing the credit. Failed trials = no funds within 24h.
All trials conducted on weekdays during Ethiopian business hours (09:00 – 17:00 EAT). Operator KYC was completed at least 7 days before each trial to eliminate first-time-verification delays. n-counts reflect trials that reached completion; failed trials are reported separately.
📊 Results — All Operators × All Rails
Time format = hours:minutes (median of n trials). Green = under 2 hours. Orange = 2–4 hours. Yellow = 4–6+ hours. Red = failed.
| Operator | Telebirr | CBE Birr | Hello Cash | n = |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Betika | 1h 23min | 2h 04min | 1h 51min | 11 |
| 1xBet | 2h 47min | 3h 18min | 3h 05min | 10 |
| Melbet | 3h 14min | 4h 02min | 2h 48min | 12 |
| Betwinner | 4h 02min | 5h 11min | failed × 2 | 8 |
| HuluSport | 6h+ avg | 4h 33min | n/a | 7 |
🔍 Per-Operator Analysis
Fastest of all tested operators across all three rails. Holds NLA local licensing and operates with native Ethiopian payment-system integration depth. No failed trials. Smallest variance (range 1h 04min – 1h 47min). Trade-offs: no crypto support, narrower sports markets than 1xBet/Melbet.
Strong performance across all three rails. Higher variance than Betika (range 1h 12min – 4h 18min) suggests load-dependent processing. Crypto withdrawals (BTC/ETH/USDT, plus 30+ altcoins — not part of this fiat trial) settle in 5–15 minutes per Bet-Eth's separate crypto-rail testing. Recommended for users wanting both fiat and crypto flexibility.
Largest sample size in this trial (n=12 across Telebirr alone). Consistent processing — no failed withdrawals across any rail. Hello Cash performance (2h 48min) actually beats Telebirr — unusual pattern, likely due to specific weekend-hours backend processing.
Acceptable Telebirr/CBE Birr times but 2 of 10 attempted Hello Cash withdrawals failed within the 24h cutoff — funds eventually arrived (one at 36h, one at 51h after request) but did not meet our trial criteria. Recommendation: avoid Hello Cash on Betwinner; use Telebirr or CBE Birr instead.
Slowest Telebirr withdrawals among tested operators. Hello Cash not supported (n/a). CBE Birr performance (4h 33min) acceptable. As an NLA-licensed local operator, HuluSport may be working with smaller backend processing capacity than international Curacao-licensed operators. Strong on local Ethiopian Premier League coverage if speed isn't the priority.
🔗 Why Crypto Is Faster (Out-of-Scope Note)
This Q1 2026 trial focuses on local fiat rails (Telebirr / CBE Birr / Hello Cash). For comparison, Bet-Eth's parallel crypto-rail testing on operators that support cryptocurrency (1xBet, Melbet, Betwinner, MegaPari) shows BTC/ETH/USDT withdrawals settling consistently in 5–15 minutes regardless of operator — driven by blockchain network confirmations rather than operator-side processing. Crypto bypasses Ethiopian banking infrastructure entirely. For users prioritizing speed above all else, crypto is the strongest option; for users without crypto literacy or ETB-native accounts, Betika's Telebirr performance is the next-best.
